Candy Henderson, MS
Chief Executive Officer
Candance Henderson is the Chief Executive Officer of Monte Nido & Affiliates. With a focus on developing teams and skill in growing companies, Candy brings strong operational and business development experience while maintaining clinical excellence in the programs she oversees. She has spent over thirty years in - and committed her career to - behavioral healthcare. Her experience spans all lines of behavioral health businesses with specialized experience in eating disorder treatment programs. She has led publicly traded and private sector companies. She received her MS in Counseling and Psychology from Troy State University following her BS in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Paul Reed, LCSW
Chief Operating Officer
Paul Reed, LCSW serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Monte Nido & Affiliates. Paul brings over twenty eight years of experience in the behavioral health field. Prior to joining Monte Nido & Affiliates, Paul held Chief Executive Officer, Regional Director, and Vice President of Operations positions in three of the leading national behavioral health organizations.
Mike Bagley, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
Mike Bagley, CPA serves as Chief Financial Officer of Monte Nido & Affiliates. He brings more than 25 years of CFO experience to Monte Nido & Affiliates including more than a dozen of them in healthcare. Mike has experience in overseeing finance and accounting, information systems, facilities and risk management. Prior to his time with Monte Nido & Affiliates he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for a company where he was responsible for overall financial management with over $300 million in annual revenues and 4,700 employees operating in 23 states. Mike began his career with international accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.
Carrie Hunnicutt, MA
Senior Vice President of Business Development
Carrie is the Senior Vice President of Business Development for Monte Nido & Affiliates. She has worked for over two decades in the national and international behavioral health business development field. Prior to her time at Monte Nido & Affiliates, Carrie led regional business development efforts in the eastern area of the United States for a large national behavioral health company, securing necessary services for people with substance use, eating, mood and trauma disorders. She earned her graduate degree in counseling at the University of Arizona following her Bachelor of Science in Business through Connecticut State University.
Jennifer Gallagher, MS
Chief Development Officer
Jennifer comes to Monte Nido & Affiliates with three decades of experience growing leading healthcare companies. Over the last 10 years, she has led the geographic expansion of behavioral health providers who were innovators in their fields. She works closely with the clinical and leadership teams to bring Monte Nido & Affiliates trusted clinical care into new markets either through start-ups or acquisitions. Prior to entering the field of behavioral health, Jennifer was a founder of one of the first diversified post-acute healthcare companies in the U.S. She received an MS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a BA in Psychology from Connecticut College.
Molly Perlman, MD, MPH, CEDS
National Medical Director
Molly Perlman, MD, MPH, CEDS serves as Medical Director of Monte Nido and Affiliates. She is double-board certified in Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. She graduated from Duke University and the University of Miami, and has trained in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Dr. Perlman is the recipient of the prestigious Laughlin and Ginsberg Fellowships, is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society, and an Assistant Professor at Florida International University College of Medicine. She is on the Board of Directors of the Eating Disorders Coalition and advocates on Capitol Hill regularly.
Robin Hoover, RN, MSN
National Director of Nursing Operations
Robin Hoover, RN, MSN currently serves as the National Director of Nursing Operations for Monte Nido & Affiliates. With more than three decades of nursing experience, Robin originally joined Monte Nido & Affiliates in the role of Consulting Nurse Administrator. Working in the Behavioral Health field has been prominent in her career in Emergency room settings, Charter Schools, Residential Treatment Centers, and as a University Adjunct Professor. Robin earned a BSN and MSN (Health Informatics Specialty) from Chamberlain College of Nursing. Member of International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals.
Joel Jahraus, MD, FAED, CEDS
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jahraus is known for his decades of specialization in the medical management of patients with eating disorders. A board-certified physician for over 40 years, he is a recognized expert on medical complications of eating disorders. Dr. Jahraus graduated from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, Missouri with a background in family medicine. He co-authored a chapter on eating disorders in Textbook of Psychosomatic Medicine and The Treatment of Eating Disorders: A Clinical Handbook. He testified at a United States Congressional Briefing on the need for health insurance coverage for eating disorder treatment. He received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and was named a Top Doctor of 2013 by U.S. News and World Report.
Melissa Orshan Spann, LMHC, PhD, CEDS-S
Chief Clinical Officer
Dr. Spann is a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist and Supervisor through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals. As Chief Clinical Officer, Dr. Spann oversees the clinical programming for the Monte Nido, Clementine and Oliver-Pyatt Centers facilities. Prior to the Chief Clinical Officer role, Dr. Spann served as Vice President of Admissions for Monte Nido & Affiliates’ , Regional Executive Director, and Primary Therapist at Oliver-Pyatt Centers. Dr. Spann received her Doctoral degree from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA, Master’s degree from the University of Miami, and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida. Dr. Spann’s professional affiliations include iaedp and the Academy of Eating Disorders while serving on the board of the Southeast Eating Disorder (SEED) Conference Committee as well as her local iaedp chapter.
Stu Komen, PhD
Chief Executive Officer, Walden Behavioral Care | Chief Strategy Officer, Monte Nido & Affiliates
Stu founded Walden Behavioral Care in 2003. His tenacious and passionate spirit has been the driving force in the company’s growth to 15 locations up and down the east coast. You are as likely to find Stu running adolescent groups for our residential program and consulting with clinicians on complex cases as you are to find him sharing a refreshed strategy to the Board of Directors. Since beginning his professional career in 1981, Stu has revolutionized the way individuals and their family’s access and receive mental health care. Fundamentally, Stu believes in creating opportunities for underserved and low-resourced populations to receive top-quality mental health care. As such, he has developed and managed several successful behavioral health care companies including Charles River Hospital and health management in Wellesley, MA, where he developed innovative treatment models for adolescents in hospital settings, and Choate Health Systems, Inc. (CHSI), where he introduced the continuum of care model that offers varying levels of support under one administration. Stu is a lecturer at Tufts School of Medicine, a member of the APA and MPA and a board member of the American Association of Mental Health.
Wendy Mahle, MA
Vice President of Human Resources
Wendy Mahle, SPHR serves as Vice President of Human Resources of Monte Nido & Affiliates. She brings over 25 years of executive-level experience in Human Resources, including 10 years in healthcare. In her last position, Wendy served as CHRO, Vice President of Human Resources for a national integrated behavioral healthcare company. Throughout her career, she has been responsible for the strategic integration of HR with Operations as well as M&A, both in the United States and internationally. Wendy received her BS in Psychology from The Ohio State University and her MA in Human Resources from The University of Iowa. Wendy is also a volunteer in several community programs for children and the homeless.
Vice President of Admissions
Colleen Stephens has seven year tenure at Monte Nido & Affiliates in which she started as a Regional Outreach Manager for Oliver-Pyatt Centers in early 2013. She then moved into a Director role overseeing the East Coast Outreach team for Monte Nido & Affiliates’ twenty-five programs across the country. In this role, Colleen brings extensive experience in admissions, including having led the admissions department for several national behavioral health programs and operations management at all levels of care. Her entire career has been dedicated to helping people access care for all behavioral and mental health presentations. Particularly due to her experience working with outpatient providers who have entrusted Monte Nido & Affiliates for their clients’ care, Colleen understands first-hand the needs of our professional partners.
Amanda Mellowspring, MS,RDN,CEDRD-S
Vice President of Nutrition Services
Amanda Mellowspring, Vice President of Nutrition Services, is a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and Supervisor through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals with over 15years of experiencing leading the treatment of eating disorders at various levels of care. Amanda currently serves on the Certification Committee for IAEDP and co-authored the publication defining the Standards of Practice and Standards of Professional Performance for RDs working with eating disorders in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Amanda is Vice President of Nutrition Services for Monte Nido & Affiliates, overseeing nutrition programming and services for Monte Nido programs, Oliver-Pyatt Centers, and Clementine programs across the country.
